Today, November 4th, was a life changing day, 25 years ago. I’m amazed we did it and so thankful we did.
We quit our jobs, sold the house and the truck, said goodbye to many dear friends and family. The U Haul was filled, my car was attached. John in the driver seat, me in the passenger seat and Petey, our parakeet, was in the middle.
Off we went, to the unknown. I was crying, but not for long.
I had the desire for many years to leave our small town in Ohio to seek new experiences in a big city. John always wanted to live in a warmer climate. We visited Arizona in September 1989 and loved it.
We loved the weather and everything was new and clean. We met many Aunts, Uncles and cousins. We visited the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Meteor Crater, and much more. We ate real Mexican food. Yummy!
We thought some day we would like to live in Phoenix.
After vacation, we talked a lot about moving. I remember people asking me when we were moving. It was like they knew, before we did. I just said we didn’t know when or if. We continued to discuss and pray about this huge decision to move 2000 miles away from where we both grew up, our families and friends and all we knew.
Then it just seemed to happen. It was so much a God thing. I really can’t even describe how it all so amazingly happened. It was scary and I remember praying if it wasn’t His will for us, to stop everything. Our faith increased during this time of so many uncertainties and our trust that the Lord would be with us every step of the way.
Less than 2 month’s after returning from our Arizona vacation, we were headed back with everything we owned in a 24-foot U Haul. Only this time it was to start a new life and adventure.
On Saturday afternoon, November 4, 1989, we began our journey West.
The first night we stayed in Richmond, Indiana. Sunday night we made it to Sullivan, Missouri. Monday night we spent in El Reno, Oklahoma.
At this point we are approximately halfway to Phoenix.
