Here we are in the month of November already. This week we are having beautiful weather, in the 70’s so it doesn’t seem like November. But we’ll take it!
When I think of November, I think of Thanksgiving. The holiday. The food. Pumpkin pies and pumpkin rolls. And all that I’m thankful for.
Why should we be thankful? For Christians, it’s God’s will for us.
Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. I Thessalonians 5:16-18
He doesn’t say FOR all circumstances but IN all circumstances. Big difference. We don’t thank God when a loved one is diagnosed with cancer. But we should thank Him for his promises to be with them, giving the strength to endure. I didn’t thank God for the ordeal of infertility but I did and still do thank Him for all that He taught us through it and for using it to strengthen our marriage. Though, I thank God today I do not have kids! Just kidding!
Do you take people and things in life for granted? I sure do. I desire to be more appreciative of all I’ve been blessed with and the wonderful people in my life. When we are not thankful it’s easy to be selfish and even arrogant. Everything we have is from the good Lord and it can all be gone instantly.
Why be thankful? It helps our heart to be in the right place with God when we are thankful. We realize how much we have. I tend to focus on what I do not have and want more or different. Oh how sad, really.
When I think of all I do have, I am humbled. My Provider and Giver of all has blessed me beyond what I could ever imagine. Not just material things, but life, breath, hope and joy, to name a few. I truly want to live a life of genuine thankfulness. Do you?
Along with thankfulness, comes contentment.
With contentment comes peace.
The opposite of thankful is critical. We complain. It’s easy to see the faults of others but let’s try to find things in them to be thankful for. We’ll feel better physically and emotionally.
Next week we will discover some of the health benefits of being thankful.
