Thrifty lessons are sometimes learned the hard way.
The mattress cover was ripped in 2 places. Every time I washed it, it ripped even more. I continued washing it and placing it back on the mattress.
Until John saw it and said, “isn’t it time for a new one?” I replied, “yes, but they are so expensive and I don’t like spending a lot on something we don’t see.
Wrong thinking will cost you.
I went to the store that has the motto ‘Save Money, Live Better’.
Yeah, right. Though, it is true in some regards.
I looked over the selection of mattress covers, not reading labels, just looking at prices.
I purchased the cheapest one.
Stripped the bed and put on the new one. I love a freshly made bed for a good night’s sleep. Not this night though. We woke up sometime in the night on cold, damp sheets. I stripped the bed again the next morning and discovered the backing was 100% vinyl. I should have read the label.
The next trip was to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to buy a NICE mattress cover. Yes, it was more than double the price of the rejected vinyl cover but we slept so much better that night. And sleep I need.
Lesson learned. Note to self: Use some Thrift Sense when shopping.
I guess I could redesign the cover and make a shower curtain out of it since it’s vinyl.
