Hiking to the Top and thankful I made it! I haven’t hiked for a few months so now that the weather is cooling off here in Phoenix, I‘ve been ready to get back out there. My husband recently hiked, rather climbed, a steep mountain by our home. He said someone placed an American flag at the top and a chair. He has been bugging me to “go see the flag.” I keep saying it’s too steep for me. He said it’s not too steep and you can do it! Well, to me it looks like a steep, straight up, rocky, slippery, hard on the knees mountain, but really it’s a hill. A rocky, steep, straight up, slippery hill. The other day I thought I would try it. I filled my Camelback with water, put on my hiking shoes, my bling hat, and pink sunglasses. I grabbed my hiking poles and off we went. I LOVE my hiking poles! As we are approaching the hill, I hear a cat hissing over yonder. I asked John if he heard it. “Heard what?” he asked. “The cat hissing”, I replied. He said, “More than likely is not a cat. A hissing sound is a rattlesnake.” We never saw the snake. Thank God! Saw a few Jackrabbits, that’s about it. Halfway up the hill, I have to stop and catch my breath. And take pictures. The pictures make it look easy. Pictures don’t capture the huffing and puffing. But I was halfway there! Yay!
I’m thankful I made it! And I’m thankful for the thoughtful person who brought the chair up. I’m thankful for my husband’s challenging and encouraging me in this way. I love to hike and be outdoors. It’s good for my heart and my soul. I pray for strength and I’m reminded of Scriptures that He is with me always, giving me courage and strength to do things I don’t think I can do.
I challenge you to step out in faith in some areas you have been wanting to do but don’t. Whether it’s exercise, volunteering at a hospital or church, reading your Bible, inviting someone to dinner. Please share how you have taken a step and you are so glad you did.
