We love to cook out on our backyard grill. The food just seems to taste better. We especially love marinated chicken with a variety of fresh vegetables; green peppers, onions, zucchini, squash, red bell peppers and cherry tomatoes. This was going to be our dinner one evening and was I ever hungry!
But life happened.
Everything was ready. The veggies were cleaned and chopped. The chicken had marinated and was cut in pieces. I helped my husband carry the food out to be grilled, then went inside to prepare for this delicious meal. I set the table and poured our drinks. A few minutes later he tells me the propane ran out. “No, not again,” I replied. How disappointing that we would not have this grilled dinner after all.
Isn’t life just like that at times? We run out of propane. If you are like me, sometimes my propane tank is full and sometimes I just run out of energy. Do you have days like that?
What do we do on those low days?
Some days and weeks are so busy or emotionally draining that I feel my energy getting slower and running out. When this happens I must take the time to recharge by getting my tank filled up. But I should not wait until I run out completely. Refueling is a daily process. I try to spend time in God’s Word and in prayer to refuel. When I allow my fuel to run out, I do not handle life’s incidents with grace and love. I want to live my life completely full in Him but it will not happen unless I take that step of faith.
Jesus promises in Matthew 11:28 that if we come to him, he will give us rest. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
What a beautiful promise. He has provided rest to me and he will for you too. Believe. Trust. Rest.
Jesus will never run out of love and grace for you and me.
We finished the food in the oven and it turned out pretty good. Now we have a spare propane tank on hand.
Dear Heavenly Father, Like a propane tank needs fuel to work, I need You to fill me each day. There are days I am tired. Tired of the busyness of doing life. Tired of the struggles. Weary from hearing the bad news around the world. Help me to come to you, first thing in the morning to start my day right; listening to you, worshipping, reading your Word, praying for others. Thank you for always being with me. Thank you for your promise of rest. In Jesus Name.
