The 13th Gift, A True Story of a Christmas Miracle, is about a family trying to move forward after the death of the husband and father. He passed just before Christmas. Someone started leaving them gifts and it ended up as part of the 12 Days of Christmas. This ‘someone’ was a recipient one Christmas when they were going through a hard time and they wanted to bless someone else just as they had been blessed. I had a hard time getting through the book because of some rambling and many details. I experienced a mixture of emotions from sadness to frustration with the family. But shame on me for feeling frustrated, especially with the mother. I have not had this type of heartache so I have no idea what she was dealing with.
What I did appreciate about this story is the honesty shared. I respect the author for being vulnerable. This book did open my eyes to how important it is to care and share with others going through a hard time. The kindness of gifts given to them changed this sad family to one of joy and hope.
I’m glad I finished the book. It ended very well with a great message. It’s nice to read true life stories about people trying to make the world a better place and putting a smile on a hurting family.
