Called for Life: How Loving Our Neighbor Led Us into the Heart of the Ebola Epidemic is the story of Dr. Kent Brantly and his fight for his life against Ebola. You may have heard this story on the news. It’s a remarkable story. Dr. Brantly and his wife Amber went to Liberia to serve as medical missionaries. Just months after being there, they began treating patients with the deadly disease, Ebola. It’s a horrible disease. Not only do many not survive but there is much suffering before they lose their life. Patients lose control of bodily functions, suffer agonizing pain and have no human contact. At no additional cost to you, if you choose to purchase from Amazon through my affiliate link in this post, I may receive a small commission
Medical personnel took extreme caution but still contracted the disease. Dr. Brantly goes into detail with the symptoms he experienced, the humility and the agony. It truly is a miracle he survived.
It’s a miracle this family stayed true to their faith. Here they were, thousands of miles away from home, believing they were called of God to serve the people of Liberia and the Doctor nearly dies from a horrible disease. But they stayed strong, believing God for healing. They came through it with the many worldwide prayers and the power of their Lord and Savior.
I’ve often wondered why God chooses to heal someone and not others. Dr. Brantly addresses this. No one knows. We are called to trust the One who does know.
I thank God Amber and their children did not contract Ebola. They had left several days before Kent was tested positive. I cannot even imagine what it must have been like for Amber, wondering if she would see her husband again.
Called for Life is a wonderful book of faith, compassion, love, and courage. I highly recommend it!
