Do you know the reason you exist? Your purpose?
I asked myself this many times, especially in my younger years. As a young girl, I thought my purpose was to find a good husband and get married. And I did. Then I thought my purpose was to have children. I did not. Since we did not have children, I thought maybe my purpose was to go to school and get a good job. I took classes at our local community college to improve my skills and I always seemed to find a decent job. I’ve had many job changes for various reasons. Through them, I remember striving to find my purpose. What am I suppose to do with my life? It was frustrating because just when I seemed to have found the “perfect job”, circumstances would change things. I was laid off from one particular job I thought I would be at until retirement. I finally started to realize and learn from Scripture was that my purpose is not necessarily where I work or what I do as a career, or in being a mother.
Let’s glorify God.
Our purpose is not always a specific employer, job position or location. I believe God will lead you as you seek him. One of our purposes as a Christian is to glorify God in whatever we do. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
Whether you are a banker, hair stylist, mechanic, housewife or president of a corporation, do all for the glory of God. How do we do this? With our words, attitudes, integrity, to name a few. Be the best you can be, honoring God with your life.
It’s not about you.
Several years ago I read Pastor Rick Warren’s, The Purpose Driven Life. Chapter 1 starts with, “It’s not about you. The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness”. He goes on to say that if we want to know why we are here we must begin with God.
You and I were born BY his purpose and FOR his purpose.
That is so mind blowing to me! The Creator of all things created me for Himself. The Bible tells us so.
I will be exploring more about His purpose for us in the coming weeks. I’d love for you to join us. Please subscribe with email so you don’t miss a post, on the right side. Thank you for reading.

This really resonates with me, Barbara. I read the Purpose-Driven Life more than 10 years ago and “It’s not about you” is the line that I still think about often today. I’m so glad our blogging paths have crossed this week!
Same here. I often think of that line. I plan on reading the book again this year as I focus on His purpose. Nice to meet you also!
