My word for 2016 is Purpose. Each year I chose a word to focus on, learn about, and live out. This book, A Million Little Ways, helped me to see even more what my purpose is. My roles do not define my purpose but my purpose is used in my roles. As a Christian, I believe our sole purpose is to glorify God in all we do. Emily calls this “Art” and everyone was born to make art. You might be thinking, “I’m not an artist”, but when you read this book you will discover the artist in you. At no additional cost to you, if you choose to purchase from Amazon through my affiliate link in this post, I may receive a small commission.
There is so much I could review and my copy has a million little highlights, underlines, tabbed pages and folded corners. I have pages of notes. I wish I could memorize her every word. If only I’d read this book in my 20’s and 30’s, it might have saved me all the wondering-what-do-I-do-with-my-life.
Writing is an art that I’ve been pursuing for the last couple of years. Emily speaks from her experience as an author, but her words are not just about writing. The art she speaks of can apply to anyone, regardless of job, role, work, title.
There are many ways, a million little ways, that Christ is formed in us and spills out of us into the world
That is the art of this book. Your art and my art could be any of the following: music you play or write or sing, writing a blog post or a best selling book, painting beautiful colors on a blank canvas or painting a mural on a blank wall. Your art could be cooking a healthy dinner for your family each night, or babysitting your niece while her mama goes to work, or waiting tables at a restaurant. Whatever you do, the art is about glorifying God.
A Million Little Ways is about having the courage to be who you are and creating a life with meaning.
I would recommend this book to those who are wondering through this earth, searching for meaning. The words on these pages are also for those who have found meaning and enjoy encouraging others. I think you will gain new insights and perspective. I did.
Emily joins words together and creates a beautiful style of word pictures. This is the first book by her I’ve read. She has 3 other books I look forward to reading. You can find her at Emily P Freeman where she “creates space for your soul to breathe.”
