Pause is my One Word for 2017. Because sometimes I need to rest; wait; stop; be still. Maybe you do too?
As I prayed and thought about my One Word goal for this year, I kept asking myself what did I lack or need to change the most. Several words popped in my head, like discipline, focus, and attitude, to name a few. Pause came to mind and it clicked. By pausing routinely, all these other words will fall into place. If I pause before coffee maybe I will be disciplined to exercise first thing in the morning. If I pause as I sit down at my computer, I might just focus on writing instead of Internet browsing.
So yes, I think this word is a God word for me this year.
The purpose of this One Word goal is to change. Change for the better. Improve life by learning to apply this word and live it.
If only I would pause before spewing or thinking disrespectfully on the Internet. Maybe if I would pause my hurtful words before I speak them to my husband. If only I would pause and reflect as I read the Bible I might just learn to apply God’s Truth to my life.
Instead, what I’ve done is attempt to “read through the Bible in one year”, like it’s a project. Nothing wrong with reading the Bible. I just don’t get it in me like this.
On the website, Got Questions, I did a search for Selah. I’ve heard this word in messages at church. Selah appears 71 times in the Psalms, usually at the end of a verse. The Amplified Bible adds, “pause and calmly think about that” to each verse where Selah appears. https://www.gotquestions.org/selah.html
Calmly think about that. Hum. That might be exactly what I need at times. When my imagination is thinking the worst while waiting on medical test results. Or when I assume and my mind thinks up all kinds of assumptions. Pause. Be Still. Breath. Wait.
Doesn’t pause sound quiet, calm and relaxing? Consequently, by pausing once in a while, we might be more quiet, calm and relaxed.
Trusting God is in the pause.
I love this verse: Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God” is a great verse to memorize. Pause and have confidence He is for us.
