Where is God in a World of Pain?

February 28, 2017 by Barbara

This question about pain is on the back cover. The Shack

From Amazon: Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment, he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever.

The Shack is a compelling story, with sadness, forgiveness, loss, love, and peace. There is some controversy about Mr. Young’s theology used in The Shack, which you can Google to learn more. For me, part of the book was questionable from a Biblical standpoint. Other parts, I believe, were in line with Scripture. It is a work of fiction so I read it as such. At no additional cost to you, if you choose to purchase from Amazon through my affiliate link in this post, I may receive a small commission.

Where is God in pain, tragedies and heartbreaking events in our life?

The Dad, Mack, understands how God redeems our pain and tragedies by the end of the story and it changes his life. God is with us in the pain and helps us through it. And just think about the pain and tragedies God has prevented. I was confronted with my lack of trust in my Heavenly Father while reading and I believe God used this book to draw me closer to my relationship with Him.

I enjoyed this book, learned from it and looking forward to seeing the movie.

I was just sharing with Dave last night about the gratitude I have for the pain and tragedies that God has spared us from. He has protected our family and drawn us to Himself. It gives me goosebumps!

Welcome!

Hi Friend, Welcome to my corner of the online world, where I write to encourage and give hope. I believe everyone could use a dose of hope from time to time so whether you need hope for your marriage, your closet, or anything in between, I hope you find some encouragement here.

Having been through some hard situations, I understand what it's like to live hopeless, depressed, angry, and bitter until God rescued me in His Love and Grace. In Him, I found an Anchor to keep me safe and secure. My passion is to share how He has rescued me and give others encouragement, as He has for me.
