Made For The Journey

December 12, 2018 by Barbara

Made for the Journey is the memoir of Elisabeth Elliot’s first year as a missionary in the jungles of Ecuador. It’s more than a memoir, with lessons learned and inspiration for anyone desiring to live out their Christian calling.

Elisabeth prayed for years for God’s guidance to the place of His choice for missionary work. She and a friend, both single, went to the jungles of Ecuador to bring the Word of God to the people there. Made for the Journey is a small book, less than 200 pages, but filled with interesting details of the challenges they faced and about her life in the jungle.

“Obedience to God was the reason for this journey.” Elisabeth Elliot

The chapter “Jungle Housekeeping” gave me a new appreciation for the “luxuries” we Americans are blessed with. Their water supply was a small river that was used for bathing, washing clothes, swimming and watering their animals in. Once there was an avalanche, causing road closers that prevented them from getting much-needed supplies. One sentence made me chuckle. “We could not iron our clothes.” I thought, why did they iron in the jungle anyway! Chapter 14, “The Life Around Us” talked about the critters in the jungles. Big critters! They sound creepy but the birds she mentions would be amazing to see; the macaws, toucans, and parakeets.

Made for the Journey is a retitle from the book These Strange Ashes. I loved reading the inspiring stories of God teaching her valuable lessons in this life in the jungle.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Welcome!

Hi Friend, Welcome to my corner of the online world, where I write to encourage and give hope. I believe everyone could use a dose of hope from time to time so whether you need hope for your marriage, your closet, or anything in between, I hope you find some encouragement here.

Having been through some hard situations, I understand what it's like to live hopeless, depressed, angry, and bitter until God rescued me in His Love and Grace. In Him, I found an Anchor to keep me safe and secure. My passion is to share how He has rescued me and give others encouragement, as He has for me.
