What Does ‘Hope Anchors the Soul’ mean?

July 17, 2019 by Barbara

“Hope anchors the soul” Hebrews 6:19.

God uses the example of an anchor as a promise that He is “sure and steadfast” for you and for me.

The symbol of the anchor became especially meaningful to me in December 2014. My Dad had told me he was diagnosed with cancer. While Christmas shopping that year, I spotted a journal with an anchor on the cover. Underneath the anchor, it said, “Hope Anchors the soul.” Hebrews 6:19

I wasn’t looking for a journal. This journal found me.

Immediately I thought of my Dad, a Navy man, and the battle he was in with his health. I purchased the journal so that I could write my thoughts to process my Daddy being sick. Since then, this verse, along with anchors, has become my passion. I changed my website theme to “Sharing Hope That Anchors the Soul” based on Hebrews 6:19. My passion is encouraging others to have hope, through my writing.

Losing my Dad was one of the most difficult journey’s I’ve been on but this Scripture spoke volumes to me during his illness and continues over 4 years later.

About this time, Anchor décor seemed to be more and more popular. Or maybe it was that I just noticed it more. Now I have anchor jewelry, clothes with anchors, cups, and mugs and more. I guess you could say I’m obsessed. It’s a reminder that I am secure in Christ; a good thing to be obsessed with, don’t you think?

The Anchor is a reminder that Jesus has me anchored in Him.

Just as an anchor secures a ship, Jesus secures our soul. The anchor must be connected to the ship in order for it to do its job to stabilize. Jesus wants to be our anchor in the storms of life and He longs for us to be connected to Him.

Hope. It’s the one thing you and I cannot live without.

Insight for Living Ministries

When my hope is in Him, I’m secure and confident.

When my hope is not in Him, I’m tossed around by the storms of life.

Is He your Anchor? Jesus loves you. Will you trust Him today?

Please feel free to email me with prayer requests at Barbara@BarbaraAnnRepan.com I would love to pray for you.

Welcome!

Hi Friend, Welcome to my corner of the online world, where I write to encourage and give hope. I believe everyone could use a dose of hope from time to time so whether you need hope for your marriage, your closet, or anything in between, I hope you find some encouragement here.

Having been through some hard situations, I understand what it's like to live hopeless, depressed, angry, and bitter until God rescued me in His Love and Grace. In Him, I found an Anchor to keep me safe and secure. My passion is to share how He has rescued me and give others encouragement, as He has for me.
