How can we be secure when the storms of life strike?
You are the ship on the ocean of your life. You have an anchor that is mighty strong and it’s available when you’re in a difficult storm. That storm could be losing your job, losing a loved one, or losing your health. We face all kinds of storms in life, some big, some small. We need an anchor and one anchor is our Bible.
As a Christian, the Bible serves as a type of anchor for helping us through the storms of life. The anchor is used to help a ship remain steady and secure when the waves are high and angry. As we read and study the Scriptures, our faith increases and our trust in our Father grows. This gives us security in our Sovereign Heavenly Father. Every word is the absolute truth.
Paul to Timothy: 14 “But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. 15 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:14-17 NLT
“What is the biblical story? It’s the story of a God of love invading the world in the person of his Son of love to establish his kingdom of love by a radical sacrifice of love, to forgive us in love and draw us into his family of love, and to send us out as ambassadors of the very same love.” from New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp
The purpose of the Bible is to reveal God’s love for mankind and His provision of redemption through His son Jesus Christ.
If we don’t have a strong anchor when the storm hits, there’s a chance we’ll drift away and get lost. Lost back into our sinful life. Wanting to give up when things get hard. Giving in to temptations.
We build our strength and security in God our Father as we go through the storms by reading & studying his word. Without doing so, we can easily drift into sin, live with no hope and end up in despair.
Even though there is a lot of the Bible I do not understand, I truly believe all of the Bible is inspired by God. This year I started a chronological reading plan. I’m currently in Job and I’ve often wondered why God allowed all the suffering Job went through. I’m still not sure but I do understand how much God is with us as we go through sufferings. Reading the Bible stories builds our faith.
Spending even 5 minutes a day reflecting on a verse will help to anchor your life as you learn from God. He speaks to us through the pages of the Bible.
