When We Need to Shift our Focus

February 13, 2020 by Barbara

Shift by Abby McDonald

We need to shift our focus when we get our eyes off God. It’s easy to get our eyes off of God, what He is doing in our lives and seeing His hand in our circumstances. “Shift” by Abby McDonald is an excellent book to help us to be mindful so we can reverse our focus. The subtitle is “Changing Our Focus to See the Presence of God” and that’s exactly what Abby’s words will do as you read and apply her words.

Abby shares some of her personal stories of times when she learned that by changing her focus it helped her to live with faith and trust in her heavenly Father.  This is a very encouraging and helpful book. Chapter 2 Looking Past Our Expectations, was especially helpful. Chapter 5 Hope in God’s Plan or our Own? is another good one.

There are questions at the end of each chapter to help with this change in perspective. I highly recommend this book for Christians of all ages. “Shift” helped me to see God in my struggles, past and present ones. My copy is underlined, highlighted and tagged with post-its. This is a book I will refer back to often because it’s so easy to get my focus off of God.

So true! God’s word says when we keep our mind stayed on Him, we have His Perfect Peace. Our thoughts and our eyes as well in some translations. Isaiah 26:3. Most of the time that requires us to take responsibility to declutter some things out of our life. Not easy. But oh the reward of the Prince of Peace! JESUS 😊
    God Bless You Barbara!

Welcome!

Hi Friend, Welcome to my corner of the online world, where I write to encourage and give hope. I believe everyone could use a dose of hope from time to time so whether you need hope for your marriage, your closet, or anything in between, I hope you find some encouragement here.

Having been through some hard situations, I understand what it's like to live hopeless, depressed, angry, and bitter until God rescued me in His Love and Grace. In Him, I found an Anchor to keep me safe and secure. My passion is to share how He has rescued me and give others encouragement, as He has for me.
